Description

This Smash Burger Recipe gives you perfectly crispy, caramelized beef patties with juicy flavor, topped with melted cheese and your favorite fixings — all in under 20 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 4 burger buns, lightly toasted
  • 4 slices American cheese (or cheddar)
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • Sliced pickles, lettuce, tomato, onion (optional toppings)
  • Burger sauce or mayonnaise

Instructions

  1. Divide the beef into 4 equal balls (do not overwork the meat).
  2. Preheat a cast-iron skillet or griddle over high heat until very hot.
  3. Add a small dab of butter, then place a beef ball on the skillet.
  4. Smash the beef ball firmly with a spatula until very thin.
  5. Season with salt and pepper and cook for 2 minutes until edges are crispy.
  6. Flip, add a slice of cheese, and cook another 1–2 minutes.
  7. Toast burger buns with butter until golden.
  8. Assemble burgers with sauce, toppings, and the hot smashed patty.

Notes

  • Use a sturdy metal spatula to smash the patties thin.
  • Don’t press the patty after flipping to keep the juices inside.
  • Double up patties for a more authentic smash burger experience.
