Description

The Mai Tai recipe is a tropical rum cocktail that embodies the spirit of Polynesian-inspired tiki culture. It’s refreshing, fruity, and perfectly balanced with a hint of almond sweetness from orgeat syrup.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz white rum
  • 3/4 oz fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 oz orange curaçao
  • 1/2 oz orgeat syrup (almond syrup)
  • 1/2 oz dark rum (floated on top)
  • Crushed ice
  • Mint sprig and lime wheel, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
  2. Add white rum, lime juice, orange curaçao, and orgeat syrup.
  3. Shake well until chilled.
  4. Strain into a glass filled with crushed ice.
  5. Gently float the dark rum on top by pouring it over the back of a spoon.
  6. Garnish with a mint sprig and lime wheel. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use fresh lime juice for the best flavor.
  • Orgeat syrup gives the cocktail its signature almond sweetness—don’t skip it!
  • For a stronger tiki-style kick, try a blend of aged and light rums.
